Clifford Chance is an international law firm that required updating its old data privacy training for the 7,500 colleagues around the world.
All employees handle data in some capacity during their day-to-day roles, so they must understand their responsibilities and the actions they must take if there is a data event. The purpose of the training is to remind colleagues of the Firm's obligations and ensure that they know where to go for advice or information, particularly if an event occurs that may present a data privacy risk. It will also satisfy client and regulatory requirements for data privacy training.
The solution took the form of an investigative ‘Whodunnit’ story, where players have the opportunity to explore different locations around a map. At each location, they identify ‘data events’ that could be the source of a data leak. The different events were based on real examples and brought to life the data privacy principles and other aspects of data privacy compliance. Players navigate through the map and enter four different locations, interacting with the characters and objects they see using ‘hotspot’ buttons, having the opportunity to reflect on specific situations by answering questions about the behaviour they should display in that scenario.
The objective is for the player to recognise when personal data is used, identify when there could be ‘data events’, when to act, what to do, and where to seek guidance.
